The accounts already have numbers.
I suggest these could be shown on the avatars of those unsubbed.
Why?
Because the value of much of Tribe.net's content stands to outlive users and their accounts,
but it is difficult to follow threads in which more than one person is unsubbed.
If they were numbered, future analysts of this early internet data would have an easier time making sense of it in terms of who is speaking to whom.
In fact, such a feature would already be of some use to me in conjunction with the random thread button I suggested.

Re: Number the Unsubscribed
Mon, October 5, 2009 - 7:14 PMI think my number was 5 thousand and something when I went to the Tribe party at 12 Galaxies where we all got name tags with our account numbers on them.
Like I said, the numbers are already assigned to the accounts.
The numbering of accounts is simple chronology.
It wouldn't take much just to make the numbers visible.

Re: Number the Unsubscribed
Tue, October 6, 2009 - 10:28 PMI actually don't like the fact that the user name disappears from content when they unsub. In most forums (except Ning, which deletes content with unsubscrbing, I think), the name remains but has 'unsubscribed' added below it. -

Wed, October 7, 2009 - 8:02 AMyeah, that works so much better. -

Re: the name remains but has 'unsubscribed' added below it.
Wed, October 7, 2009 - 3:21 PMUser names are often redundant, easily confused, or applied for abusive purposes.
When someone is unsubbed, what they have said may stand on its own merits, so deleting it automatically is often a waste.
I only suggest the numbers in order to clarify the flow of discussions. -

Re: the name remains but has 'unsubscribed' added below it.
Wed, October 7, 2009 - 7:53 PMThat's an interesting idea. Our thought was to retain the name, but you have a point there and occasionally unsubbed people don't want to see their names on the site if they have an unusual or easily identified name. -

Re: the name remains but has 'unsubscribed' added below it.
Wed, October 14, 2009 - 2:48 PMHistorians mostly want to tell one author from another, not to write all their biographies.
Almost anything worth saving on Tribe will be worth saving with an author number.
