Institute excessively paranoid censorship and limitations on member content.

Alienate members with poor, irratic and even hostile customer service.

Limit focus and appeal to San Francisco area and Burners.

Let old established members who are personal friends with the employees dominate the website and discourage new members from joining.

Cause membership to steadily decrease each month so that ad revenue also decreases.

Allow service outages to occur unabatted.

    Schedule maintenance during peak hours.

Beg for handouts from core constituency.

    File for bankruptcy.

        Jaded cursed:

        "Grundig...on leave from Tribe...whoever...

Shut the fuck up...and I say that with peace and love in my heart."

        _____________

That's not the way to silence someone, Jaded.

What you need to do to silence me is start making a lot of complaints to the TOU GUY. Just send some links - any links, this one will do - to the TOU GUY saying I was "harassing" you Mention that I am causing you emotional distress.

Within 72 hours of your complaints, I will be unsubbed.

That's the way to do it. Anything else, and you are just wasting your time trolling and flamming along with all the other mental patients.

Your failure is amazing. You just can't seem to get yourself unsubbed, can you? ha ha ...

Grundig...whatever your name for the day is today..

IF you knew anything about me at all you would know that by merely suggesting I do something such as reporting you is a sure fire guarantee of me not doing that. I'll put up with you pontificating ways on Tribe before I report you and make your small grinchlike heart go pitter patter at being unsubbed yet again. You seem to thrive on that. To you it's another feather in your cap. Why, by now, you must have a very long involved warrior's headdress going on.

No, I still prefer with all the peace and love I can muster....shut the fuck up.

                      Me too.

And I do have an idea.

Most of the people in this thread I have found something nice about. I have enjoyed their company or their comments somewhere on Tribe.net. But I don't see everyone getting along with each other.

I got a PM mentioning how I had developed into a nice Tribe personality. Something like that. And I responded that it wasn't so much ME that changed. It was other people's perceptions, as well as my life circumstances.

When I joined Tribe the first time, it was to work on my social skills. Ha! And my mum was dying of cancer. It took over a year, I think, before she died. The year anniversary of her death passed recently. Who do you think was the person who I was talking to that night? Leaning on a bit, finding comfort in just talking about this and that? Satan. Yes. Really.

He was one of the people who believed me the least, for a long time. Didn't believe that someone could live isolated or not know all these common (to everyone else) terms. Or that I didn't get a lot of references. It's not because I'm stupid, and it's not because I am trolling. It's because of my brain, I guess, and how it works. It's ALWAYS been this way for me. I am always naive and trusting, and yet I have reasons not to trust, so I am often torn.

Nevertheless, because of just how I am, I get to see how people can be, or get glimpses into who they are. While I might not get one thing, I get something else that nobody is seeing or recognizing.

I'm not being picked on right now for being different or weird. So I don't have to defend myself or go to war in every single tribe I'm in. Because I am not at war with anyone. And everyone gets to see "me" being "ME". Me without defending. Me without panicking. Me without falling apart about my mum or about being picked on.

There's a whole bunch of people that used to pick on me. Just as there are people that pick on Satan. And pick on others too. They might pick on someone new. They might pick on someone they used to be friends with. And if that person responds to try to set the record straight or to defend themselves, it ends up as a big fight.

I know. I know because many people didn't like me just because of a reputation and gossip and rumors. And if all they saw was the miserable me, no wonder they didn't like me. I didn't like me either!

Many people wouldn't even give me a chance. One of those "I heard about YOU" things.

Is that any different that what is going on here, now?

I used to liken how I felt by using an analogy. I felt like I was being attacked by a pack of wild wolves. Just me, against a huge number. One or two would zoom in to bite while others snarled. So, yeah, I'm flailing about trying to protect myself. And it looks like all of the people are attacking wolves. I can't really see far enough beyond the pack to notice several happy, wagging tailed dogs. And if they approach, I would probably flail at them too.

There's no way that the happy wagging tailed dogs can possibly expect that person who is being attacked by a pack of wolves to be friendly. Many of those happy dogs growl at the person too. Did it ever occur to people that if you are constantly attacked by wild wolves AND by supposedly friendly happy dogs that the striking out at all dog-like creatures will occur? Sure it will.

And it's inevitable that we will all step on each other's toes eventually. I think that's what toes are for. Otherwise we'd have hooves. uh... forget that part.

More tail wagging. Less snarling. Less biting. Watch for toes. Try to flail less. Realize that you may ONLY be seeing the part of the person that is flailing with weapon-like words or snarling with pointy-teeth words. There is more to each of us than those two things. Really. There is.

                        Kudos to Satan.

Now that is what I call intelllectual honesty. Notwithstanding Craig's apparently deep seated mistrust and/or disgust for me, he has the intellectual capacity and honesty to recognize and admit things that are contrary to his opinions about me.

There is no love lost between Craig and I, but I give him credit for intellectual honesty. This is not the first time I have seen him demonstrate it, either.

Y'all could learn a lot from Craig's example.

Also, if you don't like trolls, let me tell you, he is pretty close to being troll proof. He knows how to handle himself. He knows when to ignore.

How come, in response to my questions and comments about tribe.net's policies, it is entirely appropriate for several hundred trollish posts to appear in which people state every imaginable nasty opinion they can think of about me, and that is fine, applauded, encouraged, but it is inappropriate for TRUE to make one factual statement in my defense?

                          Y'all are a mob.

Why do I stay, you people ask?

Well, in part, it is interesting to me to see how mobs react to these questions. For example, I know that Tribe.net owes me a refund. That is a legal certainty and would be obvious to most lawyers. Most lawyers familiar with contract law recognize that forfeiture is disfavored under the law and a party to a contract cannot impose "penalties" or "fines" after the fact, without a written contract in which the parties agreed to that. And even if they did agree, the fines and penalties have to be reasonable. So tribe.net is way out of a limb here, even though the amount in controversy is small. It reflects some serious malfunction and risk taking in the management of the company.

Now, I know this, but what do the rubes think?

It is informative to me to see how the lay person's mind works and see how alien these well-settled legal principles are to the masses.

It is informative to me that even among a bunch of liberal, supposedly pro-consumer tribers, many of you seem to think that if you supposedly violate a contract, you automatically forfeit all of your legal rights and would automatically be subject to some financial penalty. This is far from the law, but sometimes lawyers forget how lay people think.

                          This has been very informative.

                          Thanks.

                            Refund for you or
Star put back in place (getting what you paid for)

                            and

A written policy in place about what do to for cancellations & refunds.

                            On Trues Post.

<<but it is inappropriate for TRUE to make one factual statement in my defence? >>

As one of only two responses direct to True's very touching post and because I like her I am going to comment. I agree with you that many posts here have been "trollish". I try to ignore them not to feed them. I responded because I think True gave a moving and counterpoint account of "Satan" who many people on tribe like, and many more don't. Often it is the "anti" crowd who are the loudest - but there was a "Reinstate" thread in this tribe of support. I also think her point about preconceptions and prejudices and how these adversely affects many frequent tribe users is important. I thought it was so important that it was one of the few recent posts I have replied to. Indeed I think the conversation is so important I suggested that is should be continued and explored in another tribe. I feel that the conversation, while very very important, is not the stuff of Brainstorm (a personal opinion which others are free to disagree with).. I suggested PEOLF (Psychological Effects of on line friends) might be the tribe - but nominate one and I will be there - but I think the conversation would be best held in a tribe without the emotional unmoderated posts of this tribe which show a lack of respect towards others which promote stereotypes and conflict. Hell, I will even create a tribe to do this - or join one created by another. I suggest the name "Exploring Stereotypes and people against prejudging others" also with some sort of statement that forgiving people against perceived and actual shortcomings - which we all have. I also suggest that if you thought my post was hostile - you misjudge it and me - and not to give someone a chance to demonstrate that (or maybe prove it) is to perpetuate the problem you point out.

I also think addressing TOU inadequacies is important. I further think that it is fitting to have that discussion in this tribe (a personal opinion which people are again free to disagree with) but that discussion will only been meaningful if the issue rather than personality is its focus.

<<It is informative to me that even among a bunch of liberal, supposedly pro-consumer tribers, many of you seem to think that if you supposedly violate a contract, you automatically forfeit all of your legal rights and would automatically be subject to some financial penalty.>>

You don't forfeit your legal rights (nor your obligations), and indeed (under Australian Law) you cannot contract out of many consumer protection's enshrined in the law - but sometimes contracts state that the consumer waives legal rights. Sometimes that has no standing as you cant contract our of the law, other rights (like to the return, or indeed the retention, of a deposit or fee for instance) become legally enforceable and the consumer's rights become null and void under certain contracts. I am not a lawyer - but do have to deal with many types of contracts professionally and certainly know that there are circumstances where you can retains moneys when a purchaser fails to perform obligations under the contract. But these conditions and expectations should (often under the law, and certainly in the interest of fairness) be clearly communicated to any purchaser.

I think one of the key issue driving peoples reactions to the idea of "refunds" is their attitude to flaming and trolling. It annoys and indeed exasperated many and there reaction of "no refunds" might be seen as a punitive measure to reduce what many would say is the most negative aspect of being a tribe user.

Retool tribe to be a social networking hub. Key features:

    - Users enter their social networking content such as blogs, recommendations, photos, events, recommendations, on tribe
    - Tribe data is generic-ized enough that it can be piped across to whatever the latest and greatest social networking site happens to be
    - Tribe content is auto-distributed to other sites that support data transfer, such as facebook, flixster, blogspot, livejournal, okcupid, etc.
    - Users can control which sites their material is distributed to and how frequently
    - Users can centrally manage emails, friends lists, message notifications, and the like
    - The tribe UI would allow users to see what's going on on multiple sites

The value proposition for users is that they have centrally managed repository for their social networking data. Site is sticky - the social sites, like nightclubs, will come and go, and it won't matter. Tribe will interface with them all.

Barring that, tribe should go opensource or at least allow their user community to build apps.

Also, I like a merger between OKC and tribe. OKC has a strong user community around the tests; tribe has, well, tribes and fab people. OKC manages to push a major new feature out about once every four weeks - nothing short of amazing. Tribe needs this kind of agility... desperately.

Not entirely original, but that's what I've got.
