has anyone suggested rotating the 'featured tribes' on the login page? It is silly and annoying to see burningman every damn time I login. Its a great chance to highlight tribes with high, or changing traffic, and there is no point in putting the same tribes there all the time.

does anyone who can do this actually read these ideas?

Well, that depends on where we can focus our resources. Updating the "featured tribes" list is on the radar, but low priority for now.

I think it's great advertising to always have the Bug Reports tribe on the front page.

I think it's a joke to have the Politics tribe there too. But whatever. Anyone that's been around for a while knows how I feel about the top 5 mod thingy too. But then what's the alternative? What other tribes would be featured? It is based on the most active right? I'm still not sure. Blah blah blah.

Why not put all of Marvin's tribe up there on the home page?

          LOL!

I dont really give a fuck what tribes are on the main page. If you want to put JUKEBOX or CONSPIRACY on the main page great. I have many others. They are "special interest." Say whatever you want. Laugh it up. You arent accomplishing a damned thing. If you can bond with REAL people and make new friends and make the world a better place then you will have accomplished something. And maybe you have plenty of friends and are very accomplished. Who knows. But you, and all of us, could make more friends and accomplish more together if we werent so determined and intent on being total fucking assholes.

Top 5 mod has always been a joke.

It's based on the top 5 spamming mods. The more you post, the more your rank goes up. If it were based on a tribes activity, that would be interesting, but the mods themselves, who cares.

In fact, all of the "lists" for activity on tribe are broke. The top "recommended" places have some of the lowest reviews. It's great to see places lists as "hot" that are no longer in business. The places with the most reviews are never listed. Hell, I'm the most recommended DJ on tribe and I've never been there. How about the #1 club on tribe? Never seen that either.

Myspace introduced the "you might know" feature that goes back to original tribe premise: friend of a friend. You find more people you know that way. The related tribes side bar is about the only thing that works to some extent and is interesting, then again its based on tribes that people on that tribe belong to, and no real linking criteria.

          Basically... it all needs work.

Here's the problem.... for years I've seen everyone asking for the same things. Over and over. It's pretty much granted what tribe needs and the users want. Previously everyone would ask for things and the staff ignored them and went a different direction. Now we have a staff that agrees but there's a code lock and they can't change anything until they throw the baby out with teh bath water and start from scratch.

Not sure how a skeleton crew will pull it off but I'm optimistic.

Is the Top 5 just based on how much you post? Or are there other things? Like how many people you invite to the tribe? How much other people post? Etc......? I still have no idea. I always thought it had mostly to do with how much you post but also the overall activity of the tribe. I was surprised to see myself in the top five for a long time in the past. Because I didnt think I was really posting that much. Compared to the Bruce on the mystupidmyspec twibe. He would welcome everyone and their momma. Just rediculous amounts of posts that didnt take long for me to see clearly through. I began to view it as littering. That the content of Tribe is more interesting when it's about quality as opposed to quantity.

But then I tried to figure out if it was just based only on number of posts. And from my experiment I dont think it is based solely on numbers. Because there was no fucking way anyone was posting more than I did with my "666" alt on my "666" tribe. And 666 never got in the Top 5. Then I deleted that Tribe even though tribes supposedly couldnt be deleted. I found a way. Just delete all the content ( or not ) and change the name of the tribe and kick everyone off of it. Then make it private. Then unjoin it yourself. Then I deleted the 666 alt too. : )

I am not a good programmer, but I can't believe it would be hard to get the top five mods rotating. it would breathe fresh air in, and expose people to ideas and groups they haven't thought about.

Well there are some more questions raised already.

Lets think, simple ideas that we can do with the resources at hand, that make the most difference.

mcdonalds and burger king are not different. the capitalist competition model does not create unique ideas, it creates conformity. if we think that way, we can get some good little ideas from other sites, but really its like walking shackled to other people, groups, ideas... no real innovation, always playing catch up, fighting to get a nose 'ahead'.

              no real cooperation or exploration.

\we aren't going to get facebook myspace numbers here. what we need to do is hone the blessings of THIS place, and ask what THIS place wants to become and can become.

honestly, just having a skeleton crew feel harassed by suggestions, and barely fixing the bugs is not enough. everyone gets annoyed. we need to look into what a whole new model is.

it took ONE HUNDRED AND FIFTY YEARS for Don Quixote (arguably the first novel) to be written after the invention of the printing press. we are still playing around with a pre k technology as far as human evolution is concerned.

we need to think about radical ways to use this foundation and create something mind blowing, using the pieces and potential we have. perhaps starting from scratch is an option, but I am sure the path that will work is ACTUALLY feasible, not a pipe dream, or a grand scam to emulate other ideas.

Tribe has its own lifeforce. what does it want to become?

Ok let me try this again...

                1. There is a code lock
                2. You have not seen the code

Based on these two facts, don't you think it's a bit pretentious of you to simply declare that while you're not a programmer, that it can't be hard?

Hell, Let's just build a ship to go to teh moon. I mean, we've seen what they look like, and I built some model rockets as a kid, so how hard could it be right?

Why can't the code be unlocked? Whatever locked means. Did someone lose the password? Have the machines taken over? : )

No, I don't think its pretentious, I think its true.
just use a list of eighty nine tribes and rotate it...
then add more layers when it flows naturally.

All presuming the code lock will be removed.

If you are grumpy, perhaps you are already in
need of a different kind of support that works.

The code lock cannot be removed.

The changes you propose are far more complicated than you could possibly fathom. Far better coders have looked at it then went into rehab for the horror of it all.

As for support, my jock strap is working just fine, but I will consider your offer of services in the future.
