Re: Dear Tribe (NSA)
Mon, May 25, 2009 - 3:25 PMBased on my discussions with them, it is.
It's a free for all, unless the conduct clearly invokes a statutory duty for NSA to respond. -

Re: Dear Tribe (NSA)
Mon, May 25, 2009 - 3:40 PMThat's a pity. There's actually some good here, and it's painful watching it beaten to death.
Of course, people could always start taking a little responsibility for their own conduct, too, and quit playing all the stupid games.
Yeah, right.... -

Re: Dear Tribe (NSA)
Mon, May 25, 2009 - 3:49 PMIt's not actually being beaten to death, Craig.
tribe is a sort of Choose Your Own Adventure Game. It all depends on where you hang out.
This particular den of frothing insanity really isn't the only game in town. It's just one of many. Hell, where else in the world is the local suggestion box quite such an adventure?
I'VE GOTCHYER SUGGESTION!!! RIGHT HERE!!!!!!! -

Re: Dear Tribe (NSA)
Mon, May 25, 2009 - 4:21 PMResponsibility for their actions?
People come to tribe.net by and large to avoid responsibility. It's an escape, a fantasy.
The main problem I see is when people don't know where the boundries are between fantasy and real life.
Tribe.net is a most fertile ground for cyberstalkers and cybercriminals. Tribe's official internal policy, which is totally contrary to their published policy, is that only a court can decide if conduct is illegal or defamatory, and therefore, they're not going to do anything about it other than comply with subpoenas and court orders on the matter. Until such time that legal process requires them to do something, they won't.
It's the wild west.
This is never what I wanted, believe it or not. -

This I agree with.
<< People come to tribe.net by and large to avoid responsibility. It's an escape, a fantasy. >>
This I think is less true than you do. It's a communications medium, and at one point was a less half-assed one than it is now. People talked about things that were meaningful to them and didn't just treat the place like Duke Nukem Forever. Those places still exist, like Shannon says, but they are far enough underground as to be invisible to those not in the correct inner circle.
<< This is never what I wanted, believe it or not. >>
I believe that. I doubt anybody wanted it. -

Thanks, sincerely.
