I'm not worried about your little PSA. I keep all my wealth off shore and a passport ready to flee the country should the authorities come looking to arrest me over an internet incident that did not involve me in anyway. What worries me is these peoples' daily claims - for months now - that they are going to bring my whole world "crashing down" and "destroy" me, and also get a court order BANNING me from tribe. This is scary stuff! Given that NSA has never asked me to leave, I am at a loss as to how anyone is going to get a court order banning me from the site, but still, you know, these kinds of threats --- oh! Oh! Scary.

Unfortunately, some of the same people who claim they were friends with the deceased and who claim to lament their passing have dishonored the memory by taking the occassion to grandstand and accuse others of being responsible for the suicide, even though those others, like me, had no interaction with the deceased.

People have faked their own death in real life for insurance reasons; etc. Either way it's pretty dumb. BUT to put things into perspective, I knew one of the two who have passed on. It's a real tragedy and she is missed by many.

So what is the policy after a triber passes away? I suppose the account should be left alone until the administrator or executor of the estate contacts NSA. The account belongs to the estate at that point. In most cases, the estate would not know or care, and eventually this "asset" would escheat to the great State of California. Budget crisis solved! May I suggest a new tribe feature wherein tribes have rights of survivorship, so anytime a triber passes away, the account can pass outside of probate to the designated survivor? What would tribe's policy be in response to a fake on-line suicide that caused a big outpouring of grief or upset? Is that a TOU violation, and if so, what would be the appropriate sanction?

We have been made aware of two tribe user suicides since November 2008 (when NSA took over). Both were confirmed by family and authorities. One profile was updated after the person's death by PayPal when it canceled the subscription in error (and was later corrected). The other has not been touched.

I have noticed this in several tribe.net reported suicides. The continued activity is usually reported as a friend or partner having been given or obtained access to do some "housekeeping" on the deceased person's account, but I find this highly improbable. Or it is reported as tribe.net employees actually having gone into the account for some kind of administrative or housekeeping reason. Also highly improbable. In my view, if there is any continued activity on an account of a person who reportedly died, the reported death is likely a fake. The likelihood that anyone was given the passwords by the deceased, could find the passwords, or was granted access by the administrators of tribe.net seems remote to me. Having said that, I have no knowledge or opinion on any particular death or suicide that has been reported on tribe.net. I did not know any of these people or interact with them.
