We don't need a rating system.

What would be the point?

It would be about as meaningful as a person's friend's count.

Some of the worst scumbags on tribe have 300 or more friends.

If we had a ratings system, the psycho internet losers would all give each other high ratings, just like they all friend each other now. Look at Marvin, for example. He is an admitted wanker who has no friends in real life but almost 400 on tribe?

What we have here is a bunch of internet losers, aspies, stalkers and techno nerd coders with no people skills who think they can solve their social problems with internet gadgets.

FAIL.

Ratings systems are sorta "bleh" as we all hashed out (that was a good thread)

I'm starting to think that Tags would be a better implimentation. Would work like this...

People tag their tribes how they like. Add their own words. An auto complete with a (#) number to show others that are thinking of similar tags. If you don't know what this means, take a look at going.com and see how tagging works there. It's a decent implimentation. the (#) isn't for just that tribe, its' tribe wide. All instances.

Say you start typeing....

The drop down under shows something like

Poland (35)
Poll (7)
Politics (367)
Poles (2)
Pollen (13)

Similar as well to the Google auto complete on the search bar in Firefox. The difference is it shows the number.

Anyway, for a given tribe, the system will then take in teh tags that peopel that belong to it tag it as, and then create cool things like a word cloud. You can then explore for other tribes based on the cloud. You could even color a given tribe with a color on the name going light gray - black - red to show activity when zipping around.

The nice thing with something like this is that the "rating" is based more on activity and the relevance is based on the tags themselves. In a way, this could totally replace the whole tribe category system which is very limited as well. Also would make the tribes automatically relevant to all searches. More people join, more people tag, more exposure.

I know tags have been brought up before, but hey, I'm brain storming right now.....

You might want to start with yourself Man. I like to think that most people on Tribe dont have too much of a criminal history and arent sexual predators. That seems like more of a MySpace thing.
